LinkShare Symposium East 2011

A few weeks ago, I attended the 2011 LinkShare Symposium East in New York City. (I know, I know, this post is a little overdue. But, better late than never- right?)

The conference was held June 28th at the Waldorf Astoria. Publishers, merchants, and LinkShare partners came together for an eventful day of strategy and networking. Keynote speaker, author, and Wharton Professor, Stuart Diamond gave an interesting presentation on how to negotiate in business and in life; explaining: You must give something of value in order to receive something of value.

Simple concept; and yet, most of us struggle with it. Admittedly, I was wary of the rationale behind this specific presentation at an affiliate marketing …

Official Bike of SpinSix

Attention: This is not your grandmother’s bicycle. The Public D3 is equal parts style and performance.

The three speeds add significant power and speed on flat terrains and make it much easier to haul extra weight to and from the office or store. The frame style is based on the classic “diamond” frame geometry that has been the standard for city bikes, touring bikes, and even racing bikes dating back to the late 19th century. It is an ideal choice for urbanites who are hard on their bikes, or who frequently encounter potholes and bumpy streets.

When we found out that this sleek set of wheels is available in …

Online Photo Sharing: What does it mean for Advertisers?

5/11/2011 by admin | Affiliate Marketing, Uncategorized | Add a comment

Recently, Mashable and The New York Times featured articles on the growing trend of food photography. In a study conducted by 360i, 52% of people take photos with their mobile phones at least once a month; 19% of which are shared via the web. Interestingly, research shows that only 10% of the photos included people. The study also found that brands appeared in about 12% of the photos- an insignificant percentage in comparison to other online photo sharing.

So, what does this data mean?
Well, for starters: there’s a big opportunity for advertisers.

Here’s my prediction: Social Affiliate Networks will become huge players in the online advertising arena.

Why and how?
Facebook alone has 500 million users and counting- roughly …

Joseph Jaffe & The Role of Social Media

4/29/2011 by admin | Internet Trends | 2 Comments

Yesterday, I had the privilege of sitting in on a presentation by Joseph Jaffe – social media guru and author of Flip the Funnel.  Let’s be honest, lectures can go one of two ways: a) they’re so boring that you find yourself glued to your phone while wondering if the person next to you heard your stomach growl. OR, b) you walk away thinking. Fortunately, I found Mr. Jaffe’s lecture to fall under the latter category.

Here’s what I took away from it:
Listen and pay attention to your current customers. Aside from generating roughly 75-80% of the revenue, your current customer base plays a critical role in acquiring new customers.

Why & How:
In a tough economy, every …

“…AND THAT DOES NOT A STRATEGY MAKE.”

This is the first of a 500 part series in which we address a recurring paradigm. Someone with a modicum of information about a topic suggests it as a singular, all encompassing, silver bullet of marketing. I recently spoke with a marketing executive who had been told that purchasing key-phrase URLs would boost their search engine ranking. That very sentence is so incurable, it is difficult to know where to begin dissecting. (And in this case, there were thousands of candidate URLs to purchase. Silly.)

Instead of beginning a 4-hour “SEM 101” dissertation, I opted to use a simple analogy.

Imagine you have one piece of a 200 piece puzzle, and no box cover to look at. …
