With many states seeing large budget deficits, more and more legislators are introducing bills that include an Amazon/Affiliate Tax. A bill in New Mexico, Idaho and Maine…and Florida, Tennessee and Wisconsin could soon follow suite.
The basis of the law is this: Because big Internet sites like Amazon don’t charge sales tax. The new legislation would require affiliate sites in those states to collect sales tax on any purchase made through their affiliate links. Because Amazon (and many other sites) don’t wont collect and process sales tax in those states, the just cut all affiliates based in those states from the program.

Well, we are not even through the month of January yet, and the affiliate tax issue is already appearing in legislation in a couple of states. Currently living in Rhode Island, a state already living with an Amazon/Affiliate Tax nexus, and seeing the effects of such a bill, it is VERY important that affiliates reach out to their local representatives now!
It appears that an Amazon/Affiliate Tax bill could be voted on in the following states: Virgina, Colorado and Pennsylvania.

Well, the Affiliate Summit was a great conference, as it always has been. This year attendance was a record levels, and everyone seemed to have a great time networking and networking. There are some very exciting things coming out of the conference (with Ring Revenue and the growth they continue to see with all of the networks being a major highlight), SpinSix’s meetings with potential new network partners like COPEAC, ShareASale and Hydra, and meeting with our friends at both Google Affiliate and Commission Junction.
